Dr Brandt is involved in the ongoing discussion about standard-essential patents (SEPs) in the Internet of Things era. Kurt Brasch leads patent transactions for Uber. His primary responsibility is to grow the company’s patent portfolio. He has closed more than 20 bilateral deals and launched and managed Uber's UP3 Patent Purchase Programme in April 2017. In October 2017 Mr Brasch was named one of IAM's Top 40 Global Market Makers in the patent space.

Before joining Uber in 2016, Mr Brasch led strategic initiatives and patent divestitures for Google’s patent transactions team and headed multiple patent licence negotiations. He was named one of the Top 10 IP Personalities of 2015 by IAM for his work on Google’s Patent Purchase Promotion and Patent Starter Programme.

Before Google, Mr Brasch had a 22-year career at Motorola in patent management and licensing and product management. He has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Arizona State University and an MBA from Northern Illinois University.

Hans Boumans has been Head of Technology Transfer at TNO, the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research, since 2015. Mr Boumans is responsible for TNO’s strategies regarding technology transfer, spin-off creation and licensing. Prior to his current role, he was Director of TNO’s patents and licensing department for two years, having joined the department in 2008 as a Licensing Associate. Mr Boumans has a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Amsterdam. As a researcher, he was recognised by the Scientific American as one of its Top 50 in 2007. Since 2015, Mr Boumans has been a board member of the pension fund of TNO and of TTO Circle, a European organisation of technology transfer professionals from major applied research organisations.

Jan Ebersohl is a renowned patent litigator in Allen & Overy’s Munich office and has more than 15 years’ experience in dispute resolution. Further, Dr Ebersohl is Global Co-Head of Allen & Overy’s automotive sector group, which focuses on patent disputes relating to car connectivity and the Internet of Things.
